Safe Disposal of Batteries
Batteries are very useful in our world since they provide power to many of our devices, and at the same time allow those devices to be portable. In short, they give us convenience that should not be taken for granted. However, most batteries do die out and when this happens - it is very important to dispose of them properly. This is because batteries contain toxic metals that include lead acid, mercury, nickel metal hydride, alkaline, and nickel cadmium. These substances can poison the body and the planet if left untended. That is why batteries really need to be disposed of safely for the health of everyone and everything in this world.
One safe way to get rid of the dead batteries in your home is to deliver them to hazardous wastes drops offs. If you cannot easily find a drop off centre in your area, search online for a reliable facility and mail your batteries to them. If not, give your local government office a call and ask for assistance regarding the disposal of your weak and dead batteries. Some automotive and battery stores also accept non-functioning batteries, so it is worth to call them as well. Of course, delivering your batteries to a recycling centre is very good idea too. Whichever of these ways you choose though, one thing is clear - you should never carelessly throw your useless batteries in the trash. If you do, these will just end up in landfills and the toxic materials will then seep into the ground and contribute to the already heavy pollution in the earth. So be a responsible person and dispose of your dead batteries safely!
